Working with us
What is Roman?+
Roman works with the people behind America's independent businesses: owners, the executives who run them and the investors who back them. Our team has sat on both sides of the table, as investors and as operators running a small business of our own. Roman CFO grew out of that. Owners kept telling us they were running great businesses on numbers they didn't trust, and getting real financial help meant hiring a full finance team they didn't need.
What does "AI CFO" mean? Is this just software?+
No. You work with experienced finance people who know the trades. AI does the slow work: reading every transaction, sorting and matching, and building the reports. That's what lets us be thorough, fast and affordable. People check every number, make the judgment calls and sit down with you to decide what to do.
Do I need to replace my bookkeeper or CPA?+
No. We can take over your bookkeeping, or work alongside the bookkeeper you have now. Your CPA keeps handling taxes, and we work with them so they get clean numbers at year end.
Are you a CPA firm?+
No. We provide bookkeeping and CFO advisory services. We don't do audits or file taxes, and we don't give legal or investment advice. For those, we work with the professionals you already trust.
How is pricing set?+
Bookkeeping starts at $250 a month and CFO support at $2,500 a month. Where you land depends on how many transactions you have, how many entities or locations you run, and how much support you want. After the review we'll know your books well enough to give you a fixed monthly price, with no surprise bills.
What kinds of businesses do you work with?+
Owner-run service businesses doing $5 million to $50 million a year in revenue: roofing, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, restoration, pest control and similar trades. If you're outside that range, reach out anyway and we'll tell you honestly whether we're the right fit.
Do I have to change software?+
No. We work in your QuickBooks and alongside the tools you already use for estimating, scheduling and payroll. QuickBooks Online is the quickest to connect. If you use QuickBooks Desktop or something else, let us know on the form and we'll work out access.
Your data
Is my financial information safe?+
Yes. We only ask for the access we need to do the work, and you can remove it from QuickBooks at any time in a few clicks. Your information is used only to serve you. We never sell it or share it with anyone without your permission.
Will you contact my customers, employees or vendors?+
No. We work from your books and from you. We'll only reach out to your bookkeeper or CPA if you ask us to.
The Free CFO Review
What's the catch?+
There isn't one. The review is free, and you keep everything we give you whether or not you ever work with us. We offer it because it's the best way for you to see how we work, and for us to see whether we can actually help. If we can't, we'll say so.
What do I actually get?+
A written review of your business built from your own books, plus a 60-minute call to walk through it. It covers three years of history and this year to date: a restated profit and loss statement, where your revenue comes from, which types of work make the most money, your true earnings after one-time and owner expenses, cash flow through the seasons, crew and payroll costs, supplier and subcontractor spend, and what your marketing is returning. It ends with our recommendations and a 90-day plan.
How much of my time does it take?+
About 10 minutes to give us access to QuickBooks, and an hour for the walkthrough call. We may send a few short questions while we work, for things the books can't tell us, like which expenses are personal or one-time. Results come back within 10 business days.
What happens after the review?+
You keep the review and the plan, and you're free to act on it yourself. If ongoing help makes sense, we'll tell you which service fits and send you a quote. If it doesn't, that's the end of it. No pressure and no endless follow-up emails.
My books are a mess. Is that a problem?+
No, that's normal, and it's often where we find the most. We'll clean up what we need to for the review and tell you plainly what it would take to get your books right going forward.
